Last two weekends we had two important events taking place in our church campus. The first one was the Parish Dinner Dance which was held on May 30th 2015. Since the time I have taken charge as the Pastor of St. Joachim parish, this event has been organized every year with the help of the Events Committee. True, the parish Dinner Dance does not raise so much money in comparison to the amount of work that is involved in organizing such a program. Yet I feel that the trouble we take to organize this event is worth when we consider that this event brings together under one roof all those love our parish – both from our parish as well as people belonging to other parish. The Events Committee chose Mrs. Edna Valderrama as the chairperson of this year’s Dinner Dance. Even though the tickets sale was slow in the beginning, it gained momentum as the date was fast approaching. In the end, more than 270 people took part in this year’s Parish Dinner Dance. The decoration, the food, the hospitality, the music etc., was so well organized. Everyone who came for the Dinner Dance had fun and laughter. People left with a sense of satisfaction and a smile on their face. Basing on the comments I received from the people who came for the Dinner Dance, it would not be an exaggeration to say that this year’s Dinner Dance was the best ever Dinner Dance that our parish has organized, at least since the time I have been here at St. Joachim. The main credit for this should go to Ms. Edna Valderrama – the Chairperson of this year’s Dinner Dance, the Events Committee, the Knights of Columbus and all the volunteers who sold the tickets, served food, decorated the Gym and guided the guests at the reception desk, etc. Thanks to everyone who helped in the organization one way or another. Your help in organizing this year’s Dinner Dance has created such a positive attitude toward our parish and the way we conduct our events. Well done.
The second event was the administering the Sacrament of Confirmation that was held on Sunday, June 7th 2015 at 4.00 pm. 65 youth of our parish were administered the Sacrament of Confirmation by the Vicar General Rev. Fr. George Mockel. It was such a joy to take part in this event. Our church campus was filled to its capacity right from 2.00 pm onwards. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of happiness and festivity. The liturgy was beautifully organized by Mrs. Pat Ludwig, Mrs. Fides Castaneda and Ms. Selena Castellanos. As usual the choir led by Mr. Ariel Mayormita was excellent. All our youth were well prepared to answer any question that was thrown at them. That only showed how nicely they were prepared for the last two years by Ms. Glenda Aragon, Mrs. Bertha Cruz, Mr. Abraham Gonzalez, the youth core team volunteers and so many volunteers such as Mrs. Penny Mansalay. My sincere thanks to all of you. A special thanks to all the altar servers for their dedicated service. Once again we have proved that when it comes to liturgy, we make no compromise. Well done.

Los últimos dos fines de semana tuvimos dos eventos importantes en nuestro campus de la Iglesia. La primera de ellas fue la Cena Baile de la Parroquia que se celebró el 30 de Mayo de 2015. Desde el momento que vine como el Pastor de la Parroquia de San Joaquín, este evento ha sido organizado cada año con la ayuda del Comité de Eventos. Es cierto que la Cena Baile de la Parroquia no recauda tanto dinero en comparación con la cantidad de trabajo que toma la organización de este programa. Sin embargo creo que el trabajo que toma para organizar este evento vale la pena si tenemos en cuenta que este evento reúne bajo un mismo techo a todos los que aman a nuestra parroquia – tanto de nuestra parroquia, así como personas que pertenecen a otras parroquias. El Comité de Eventos eligió a la Sra. Edna Valderrama como el Presidente de la Cena Baile de este año. Aunque la venta de boletos fue lenta al principio, tomó fuerza cuando fue acercándose la fecha. Al final, más de 270 personas participaron en la Cena Baile de la Parroquia este año. La decoración, la comida, la hospitalidad, la música etc., estuvo tan bien organizada, que todo aquel que vino a la Cena Baile se divirtió. La gente se fue con un
sentimiento de satisfacción y una sonrisa en su cara. Basándose en los comentarios que recibí de la gente que vino a la Cena Baile, no sería una exageración decir que la Cena Baile de este año fue la mejor Cena Baile que se ha organizado en nuestra parroquia, al menos desde el tiempo que llevo aquí en San Joaquín. El crédito principal por esto debe ir a la Sra. Edna Valdarrama – el Presidente de la Cena Baile de este año, el Comité de Eventos, los Caballeros de Colón y todos los voluntarios que vendieron los boletos de entrada, sirvieron comida, decoraron el gimnasio y guiaron a los invitados a la recepción, etc.. Gracias a todos los que ayudaron en la organización de una manera u otra. Su ayuda en la organización de la Cena Baile de este año ha creado una actitud muy positiva hacia nuestra parroquia y como llevamos a cabo nuestros eventos. Bien hecho.
El segundo acontecimiento fue la administración del Sacramento de la Confirmación que se llevó a cabo el Domingo 7 de Junio de 2015 a las 4:00pm. 65 jóvenes de nuestra parroquia recibieron el Sacramento de la Confirmación por el Vicario General Rev. Fr. George Mockel. Fue un placer participar en este evento. Nuestro campus de la Iglesia se llenó a su máxima capacidad de las 2:00pm en adelante. La atmósfera se llenó con una sensación de felicidad y festividad. La Liturgia fue maravillosamente organizada por la Sra. Pat Ludwig, la Sra. Fides Castañeda y la Sra. Selena Castellanos. Como de costumbre el coro dirigido por el Sr. Ariel Mayormita fue excelente. Todos nuestros jóvenes estaban bien preparados para responder a cualquier pregunta que se les preguntó. Esto solo mostró que tan bien fueron prepararon durante los últimos dos años por la Sra. Glenda Aragón, la Sra. Bertha Cruz, el Sr. Abraham Gonzalez, los voluntarios del grupo juvenil y tantos voluntarios como la Sra. Penny Mansalay. Mi más sincero agradecimiento a todos ustedes. Un agradecimiento especial a todos los monaguillos por su dedicado servicio. Una vez más hemos demostrado que cuando se trata de la Liturgia, no hacemos ningún compromiso. Bien hecho.
