Why do Catholics believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
- Jesus said, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
- “My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.”
- “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him on the last day.”
- Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist during his Last Supper.
- Jesus commanded his disciples to repeat it in his memory
- “Nothing is impossible for God.”

St. Philip Neri saw someone leaving Church right after Communion, and he sent servers with candles and bells to accompany the man. The guy stormed back into the Church and confronted the priest. “What kind of joke is this?” he demanded. St. Philip Neri said, “It’s no joke. The rules of the liturgy say the Blessed Sacrament should be treated with reverence. You left the Church immediately with no prayer of thanksgiving. You were carrying the Blessed Sacrament within you. So I asked the boys to accompany you to honor Him.” After Communion you and I are tabernacles – the physical presence of Jesus continues in us for a brief time. That’s why we have the Communion hymn, a time of silence, the Communion Prayer – and even the announcements – to build up the Body of Christ in practical ways. San Felipe Neri vio a alguien irse de la Iglesia justo después de la Comunión, y envió a servidores con velas y campanas para acompañar al hombre. El hombre irrumpió en la Iglesia y confrontó al Sacerdote. “¿Qué clase de broma es esta?” exigió. San Felipe Neri dijo, “no es ninguna broma. Las reglas de la Liturgia dice que el Santísimo Sacramento debe tratarse con reverencia. Te fuiste de la Iglesia inmediatamente sin ninguna oración de acción de gracias. Tú llevas el Santísimo Sacramento dentro de ti. Así que le pedí a los muchachos que te acompa-ñaran para honrarlo.” Después de la Comunión tú y yo somos tabernáculos – la presencia física de Jesús continúa en nosotros por un breve tiempo. Es por eso qué tenemos el himno Comunión, un tiempo de silencio, la oración de Comunión – y aún los anuncios – para construir el Cuerpo de Cristo en maneras prácticas.
