Last year St. Joachim parish Fall Festival was organized for two days in front of the Parish Hall. The Knights of Columbus were in charge of the festival and put in a lot of hard work to make it a success. Their hard work brought in $14,071 to the parish fund. However, at the time of evaluation it was felt that organizing the festival in front of the parish hall took away a lot of parking spaces and the elders of our parish not only found it difficult to find parking spaces but also found it difficult to walk to the church from faraway distances. The organizers of the Fall Festival too, felt that the two day event involved too much hard work to put in. Therefore, this year it was decided to organize one day Fall Festival in the Gym as in the past. The Filipino community (led by the Legion of Mary), the Latino community, the Goan Rosary Group (Indo-Pakistan food booth), The St. Joachim Liturgical Ministries supplied lots of delicious food to be sold in the gym. The Youth organized games for the children. The organizers had also put in a lot hard work to prepare items to be sold at the silent auction. Unfortunately in comparisons to the amount of hard work that was put in by the organizers, the participation by the parishioners in the festival could have been better. The events committee will certainly take up the matter in the next meeting as to how better we can increase the participation of parishioners in the Fall Festival. This year the Fall Festival has brought in a net profit of $ 7,924. (Last year the Rummage sale had brought in $1,766 which was not organized this year.) I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Ms. Selena Castellanos and all the other volunteers who put in so much of hard work to organize this year’s Fall Festival. Incidentally Ms. Selena Castellanos had also led this year’s parish picnic on Saturday July 22nd, 2017 in which the participation of our parishioners was much better than many other years. All the money raised and whatever donation you make is going to be used in the remodeling and renovation of St. Joachim Hall and the Gym. The work of remodeling of the Hall is taking place slowly but steadily. It is slow because the work is done by volunteers who come and work after their regular work outside. In that way the parish is saving a lot of expenditure. Once the remodeling work is completed, new closets and new light fixtures will be installed and the interior walls will be painted. And finally after a period of more than twelve years, the floor of the hall will be sanded and polished. In the Gym, new bleachers are going to be installed at the cost of more than $60,000. In addition to the installation of new bleachers, new curtains are going to be hung on the stage and new granite counter tops are going to be installed in the kitchen. And finally the Gym floor is also going to be sanded and polished after a period of more than 15 years. Certainly St. Joachim Hall and the Gym are getting a face lift – a long due. Thanks be to all the donors and helpers. The Hall renovation expenses will be shared equally by the School and the Church. The Gym renovations expenses are shared by CYO, the School and the Church.

El año pasado el Festival de Otoño de la Parroquia de San Joaquín se organizó durante dos días frente el Salón Social. Los Caballeros de Colón fueron los encargados de la fiesta y pusieron un montón de trabajo rigoroso para que fuera un éxito. Su arduo trabajo dejó $14,071 para el fondo de la parroquia. Sin embargo, en el momento de la evaluación, se consideró que organizando el festival frente al Salón Social, quitó un montón de estacionamientos y para los ancianos de la parroquia no solamente les resultó difícil encontrar estacionamiento, sino también les costó caminar hacia la Iglesia desde las distancias remotas. Los organizadores del Festival de Otoño también pensaron que dos días de evento también involucraba mucho trabajo rigoroso para llevarse a cabo. Por lo tanto, este año se decidió organizar un día de Festival de Otoño en el gimnasio como en el pasado. La comunidad Filipina (encabezada por la Legión de María), la comunidad Latina, el grupo de Rosario de Goa (comida de India y de Pakistán), los ministerios litúrgicos de San Joaquín suministraron un montón de comida deliciosa para que se vendiera en el gimnasio. Los jóvenes organizaron juegos para los niños. Los organizadores también pusieron mucho trabajo para preparar los artículos para ser vendidos en la subasta. Por desgracia, en comparación a la cantidad de trabajo arduo que pusieron los organizadores, la participación de los feligreses en el festival pudo haber sido mejor. El Comité de Eventos sin duda tomará el asunto en la próxima reunión en cuanto a cómo podemos mejorar y aumentar la participación de los feligreses en el Festival de Otoño. Este año el Festival de Otoño ha traído un beneficio neto de $ 7,924. (El año pasado la venta de objetos usados trajo $1,766 lo cual no fue organizado este año). Me gustaría expresar mi más sincero agradecimiento a la Sra. Selena Castellanos y a todos los voluntarios que pusieron gran parte del trabajo para organizar el Festival de Otoño de este año. Por cierto la Sra. Selena Castellanos también organizo el picnic de la parroquia este año el Sábado, 22 de Julio de 2017, en el que la participación de nuestros feligreses fue mucho mejor que en muchos otros años atrás. El dinero recaudado y cualquier otra donación se van a utilizar para la remodelación y renovación del Salón Social y del gimnasio. La obra de remodelación del Salón Social se está llevando a cabo lenta, pero constantemente. Es lento porque el trabajo es realizado por voluntarios que vienen a trabajar después de su trabajo regular fuera de la parroquia. De esta manera la parroquia se está ahorrando un montón de gastos. Una vez terminado el trabajo de remodelación, se instalarán armarios nuevos, nuevas luminarias, y se pintarán las paredes interiores. Y finalmente, después de un período de más de doce años, el piso del Salón Social será lijado y pulido. En el gimnasio, nuevas gradas van a instalarse a un costo de más de $60,000. Además de la instalación de nuevas gradas, nuevas cortinas van a ser colgadas en el escenario y nuevas encimeras de granito van a instalarse en la cocina. Y por último el piso del gimnasio también va a ser lijado y pulido después de un período de más de 15 años. Sin duda el Salón Social y el gimnasio están recibiendo una cirugía plástica – ya era hora. Gracias a todos los donantes y ayudantes. Los gastos de renovación del Salón Social serán compartidos igualmente por la escuela y la Iglesia. Los gastos de renovación del gimnasio serán compartidos por CYO, la escuela y la Iglesia.
