A beautiful old story tells of how Jesus, after his Ascension into Heaven, was surrounded by the Holy Angels who began to inquire about his work on earth. Jesus told them about His birth, life, preaching, death and Resurrection, and how he had accomplished the salvation of the world. The Archangel Gabriel asked, “Well, now that you are back in Heaven, who will continue your work on earth?” Jesus said, “While I was on earth, I gathered a group of people around me who believed in me and loved me. They will continue to spread the Gospel and carry on the work of the Church.” Gabriel was perplexed. “You mean Peter, who denied you thrice and all the rest who ran away when you were crucified? You mean to tell us that you left them to carry on your work? And what will you do if this plan doesn’t work?” Jesus said, “I have no other plan — it must work.” Truly, Jesus has no other plan than to depend on the efforts of his followers! ——————————————————————— There is the funny story of the raw army recruit standing at attention on the drill field. The Drill Instructor yells, “Forward, march!” And the entire ranks begin to move, all except this one raw recruit. He’s still standing there at attention. So the Drill Instructor strolls over to him and yells in his right ear, “Is this thing working?” “Sir, yes, sir!” The recruit yells. Then the drill instructor walks around to the other ear and yells, “Is this thing working?” “Sir, yes, sir!” The soldier says. “Then why didn’t you march when I gave the order?” “Sir, I didn’t hear you call my name.” Some of us are like that soldier, standing around waiting for God to call our names. But the great commission given by Jesus on the day of the Ascension is a blanket order. It has everyone’s name on it. And you can be sure that the Man in charge says, “Go! Make disciples! Teach!” It is your mission and my mission. ——————————————————————— After attending a convention led by Billy Graham a woman wrote to him. “Dear Sir, I feel that God is calling me to preach the Gospel. But the trouble is that I have twelve children. What shall I do?” The televangelist replied: “Dear Madam, I am delighted to hear that God has called you to preach the Gospel. I am even more delighted to hear that He has already provided you with a congregation in your own home. ——————————————————————– There was a long-winded pastor who preached salvation history from Genesis to Revelation in every sermon. On the feast of Ascension as he reached Isaiah, he remarked that the prophet said nothing about the ascension of Our Lord. He asked his audience, “What shall we do with him?” One old man in the front seat said, “He can have my seat, Father, I am leaving.”

Una hermosa y an!gua historia cuenta cómo Jesús, después de su Ascensión al cielo, fue rodeado por los Santos Ángeles que comenzaron a indagar sobre su trabajo en la !erra. Jesús les contó acerca de su nacimiento, vida, predicación, muerte y resurrección, y cómo había logrado la salvación del mundo. El Arcángel Gabriel preguntó: “Bueno, ahora que estás de vuelta en el cielo, ¿quién con!nuará tu trabajo en la !erra?” Jesús dijo: “Mientras estaba en la !erra, reuní a un grupo de personas a mi alrededor que creían en mí y me amaban. . Con!nuarán difundiendo el Evangelio y con!nuarán la obra de la Iglesia ”. Gabriel estaba perplejo. “¿Te refieres a Pedro , que te negó tres veces y todo lo demás que huyó cuando te crucificaron? ¿Quieres decirnos que los dejaste para con!nuar con tu trabajo? ¿Y qué harás si este plan no funciona?” Jesús dijo: “No tengo otro plan, debe funcionar”. En verdad, ¡Jesús no !ene otro plan que depender de los esfuerzos de sus seguidores! ———————————————————————– Hay una historia graciosa del recluta del ejército en bruto que se encuentra en el campo de entrenamiento. El instructor de simulacros grita: “¡Adelante, marchen!” Y todos los rangos comienzan a moverse, todos excepto este único reclutado en bruto. Él todavía está parado allí en atención. Así que el instructor de ejercicios se acerca a él y le grita al oído derecho: “¿Funciona esto?” “¡Señor sí señor!” El recluta grita. Y puedes estar seguro de que el Hombre a cargo dice: “¡Vamos! ¡Haced discípulos! ¡Enseñen!” Es su misión y mi misión. ————————————————————————— Después de asis!r a una convención dirigida por Billy Graham, una mujer le escribió. “Es!mado señor, siento que Dios me está llamando a predicar el Evangelio. Pero el problema es que tengo doce hijos. ¿Qué debo hacer? “El televangelista respondió:” Es!mada señora: Me complace escuchar que Dios le ha llamado a predicar el Evangelio. Estoy aún más complacido al escuchar que Él ya le ha proporcionado una congregación en su propia casa. ————————————————————————— Había un pastor de largo aliento que predicaba la historia de la salvación desde Génesis hasta el Apocalipsis en cada sermón. En la fiesta de la Ascensión, cuando llegó a Isaías, comentó que el profeta no dijo nada sobre la ascensión de Nuestro Señor. Le preguntó a la audiencia: “¿Qué haremos con él?” Un anciano en el asiento delantero dijo: “Puede tener mi asiento, padre, me voy”.
