On Saturday January 14th I was informed that Tita Ising Buendia died the previous day in the Philippines. The first thought that came to my mind was, “what a saintly woman we had and lost.” Indeed I consider it such a privilege and fortune to have come to know her. Her love for Jesus, Mother Mary, St. Joachim church, its priests etc. is extraordinary. Even in her dying moments, St. Joachim church was in her mind. Just last week she sent through a visitor an expensive and beautiful table cloth for the credence table in our church and of course some special gifts for me too! As a tribute to this extra ordinary woman of love, affection commitment and godliness, this week, I republish an article which I had written about her on May 26, 2013. St. Joachim Church, Hayward is blessed with so many good and generous parishioners. One such great daughter of St. Joachim parish is Felicisima Buendia, affectionately called Tita Ising who celebrates her 90th Birthday on May 22nd 2013. She was born on May 22nd 1923 at Malolos in the Philippines. Her parents were Anthonio Baptista and Loreto Tan. Her parents had nine children (five boys and four girls). Tita Ising was the eighth child. At the age of 19 she got married to Mr. Diosdada Buendia son of Senator Nicholas Buendia of whom Buendia Avenue in Quezon City is named after. The couple lived a happy married life during which Tita Ising gave birth to nine children (5 boys and 4 girls). Tita Ising took lots of interest in providing education and imparting Catholic faith to many poor children of her locality. The couple completely sponsored the education of two priests and a nun. As a member of Mother Butler, she was instrumental in providing chasubles, altar cloths and purificators to many churches in the Philippines. Tita Ising’s dream life came to an end when her beloved husband met with an untimely death at the age of 53. Since many of her children had moved to the USA for education and employment, Tita Ising, too, moved to the USA in the year 1984. After having been members of St.James and St.Anns Parish for a while, the family finally settled in the parish of St.Joachim since the year 2000. From that time onwards Tita Ising has been very closely associated with the parish and has been the darling grandma of all the pastors. She takes exceptional care in providing neat and clean altar clothes for all the Masses. Even though she does not drive, she sees to that she is present every day in the sacristy much ahead of time to arrange everything needed for the 8.30 am weekday mass and the 9.00 am Sunday Mass. The way she cares and loves the priests, the interest she takes to maintain the cleanliness of the altar cloths and the sacristy, the love she has for Mother Mary and Jesus, the friendly and affectionate way she talks to everyone is indeed a life worthy to be imitated by others. No wonder Tita Ising is one of the most loved parishioners of St. Joachim parish. May God bless our parish with many more such noble souls. May God continue to bless her with good health, long life and happiness. Happy Birthday to one of the beloved daughters of St. Joachim Parish.

El Sábado, 14 de Enero me informaron que Tita Ising Buendía murió el día anterior en las Filipinas. El primer pensamiento que vino a mi mente fue, “que mujer santa tuvimos y perdimos”. De hecho considero un privilegio y fortuna de haber podido conocerla. Su amor por Jesús, Nuestra Madre María, la Iglesia de San Joaquín, sus Sacerdotes, etc. es extraordinario. Incluso en sus momentos de muerte, la Iglesia de San Joaquín estuvo en su mente. Apenas la semana pasada envió a través de un visitante un costoso y hermoso mantel para la mesa de credencia en nuestra Iglesia y por supuesto algunos regalos especiales para mí también! Como un homenaje a esta mujer extraordinaria de amor, compromiso, afecto y piedad, esta semana volveré a publicar un artículo que había escrito sobre ella el 26 de Mayo de 2013. La Iglesia de San Joaquín, Hayward ha sido bendecida con tantos feligreses buenos y generosos. Una gran hija de la parroquia de San Joaquín es Felicísima Buendía, cariñosamente llamada Tita Ising quien celebra su 90vo cumpleaños el 22 de Mayo de 2013.
Nació el 22 de Mayo de 1923 en Malolos, Filipinas. Sus padres fueron Antonio Baptista y Loreto Tan. Sus padres tuvieron nueve hijos (cinco varones y cuatro niñas). Tita Ising fue la octava hija. A la edad de 19 años se casó con el Sr. Diosdada Buendía, hijo del Senador Nicholas Buendía por el cual lleva el nombre la Avenida de Buendía en Quezon City. La pareja vivió una vida feliz de casados durante los cuales Tita Ising dio a luz a nueve hijos (5 niños y 4 niñas). Tita Ising tomó mucho interés en proveer educación e impartir la fe Católica a muchos niños pobres de su localidad. La pareja patrocinó totalmente la educación de dos Sacerdotes y una Monja. Como miembro de la Madre Butler, ella fue instrumental en el abastecimiento de casullas, manteles de altar y purificadores para muchas Iglesias en las Filipinas. La vida de sueño de Tita Ising llegó a su fin cuando su esposo amado falleció prematuramente a la edad de 53 años. Puesto que muchos de sus hijos se trasladaron a los Estados Unidos para su educación y empleo, Tita Ising, también se trasladó a los Estados Unidos en el año 1984. Después de haber sido miembros de San Santiago y la parroquia de Santa Ana por un tiempo, la familia finalmente se estableció en la parroquia de San Joaquín desde el año 2000. Desde ese momento en adelante Tita Ising se ha involucrado en la parroquia y ha sido la abuela querida de todos los Pastores. Ella toma cuidado excepcional en proporcionar manteles de altar limpios para las Misas. A pesar de que ella no maneja, ella está presente cada día en la sacristía bien temprano para arreglar todo lo necesario para las Misas semanales de las 8:30am y la Misa Dominical de las 9:00am. La manera que ella cuida y ama a los Sacerdotes, el interés que lleva para mantener la limpieza de los manteles del altar y la sacristía, el amor que tiene por Nuestra Madre María y Jesús, la forma amable y cariñosa que le habla a todo el mundo, es de hecho una vida digna de ser imitada por otros. No es de extrañar que Tita Ising es una de los feligreses más queridas de la parroquia de San Joaquín. Que Dios bendiga a nuestra parroquia con muchas más almas nobles. Que Dios la siga bendiciendo con buena salud, larga vida y felicidad. Feliz cumpleaños a una de las hijas amadas de la parroquia de San Joaquín.
