A few years back the diocese of Oakland sent people to make a study of the various facilities in our campus such as the Church, the School, the gym and hall. The purpose of the study was to find out the facilities available, the way they are used for various purposes, the way they are maintained and taken care of etc. After making a thorough study of the various facilities and the way it is taken care of, we were told that St. Joachim church is one of the best parishes in the diocese in terms of the facilities it has, the way it used and taken care of. Quite a few times people who newly come to our church or make a visit to our church make a comment that our church may be one of the rich parishes in the diocese. But the truth is that our parish is one of the parishes which just manage to keep it going. Our church is nearly 70 years old. Which means many things in our facilities need to be repaired or replaced. If we do not take timely action, we will end up spending huge money to redo the whole thing as it happened in the case of our church’s bell tower as well as the roof over the kitchen in the rectory. The bell tower which could have been repaired at the cost of $40,000 if timely action was taken as soon as the leak in the tower was noticed and reported, costed us $145,000 when we were forced to renovate it as it was all most at the verge of collapsing. So also the roof over the rectory kitchen which could have been repaired for lesser amount finally costed us $60,000. And that is the reason we keep on doing constant repair and maintenance work in our church campus. At times people ask me why I keep on doing repair and maintenance work. My answer to them is that first of all if we do not attend to any problem immediately, it is going to cost us a lot at a later stage. Secondly I feel that it is my house and I am responsible for it as long as I remain as the pastor of this parish. And that is the reason why for the last eight years that I have been the pastor of St. Joachim, we have spent nearly $400,000 towards various projects. I was able to do that only because of your generosity. In addition to the Sunday offering you make, the fund raising activities by the Guadalupanos, the Simbang Gabi committee, the Events committee etc, have been of immense help to our parish to raise money to meet the various activities of our parish. But for their hard work, our parish would not be able to balance the budget. I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to every member of these committees who spend so much of their time and energy to raise money for the parish. May God abundantly bless them and their families. At the back of this bulletin is given the statement of last year’s income and expenditure of our parish. Kindly take time to go through them to make you aware of the way the money is raised and spent to keep the various activities of our parish going.

Hace unos años atrás la Diócesis de Oakland envió a gente para hacer un estudio de las diversas instalaciones en el campus como la Iglesia, la escuela, el gimnasio y el salón social. El propósito del estudio fue para averiguar los servicios disponibles, la manera que se utilizan para diversos fines, la forma que son mantenidos, cuidados etcétera. Después de hacer un estudio exhaustivo de las diversas instalaciones y la forma como se están cuidando, nos dijeron que San Joaquín es una de las mejores parroquias de la Diócesis en cuanto a las instalaciones que tiene, la utilización, y el cuidado. Varias veces las personas que recién llegan a nuestra Iglesia, o hacen una visita a nuestra Iglesia, hacen un comentario que nuestra Iglesia puede ser una de las ricas parroquias en la Diócesis. Pero la verdad es que nuestra parroquia es una de las parroquias que apenas se consigue mantenerla. Nuestra Iglesia tiene casi 70 años. Lo que significa que muchas cosas en nuestras instalaciones necesitan ser reparadas o cambiadas. Si no tomamos medidas oportunas, acabaremos gastando mucho dinero para rehacer todo como sucedió en el caso de la torre del campanario de la Iglesia, y como el techo de la cocina en la rectoría. La torre del campanario que podría haber sido reparada por $40,000 si se hubieran tomaron medidas oportunas tan pronto como la fuga de la torre fue observada, nos costó $145,000 cuando nos vimos obligados a renovarla ya que todo estaba al borde del colapso. Así también el techo en la cocina de la rectoría que pudo haber sido reparada por una menor cantidad, finalmente nos costó $60,000. Y es la razón por la cual seguimos haciendo trabajos de reparación y mantenimiento constante en nuestro campus de la Iglesia. A veces me preguntan por qué continuar haciendo trabajos de reparación y mantenimiento. Mi respuesta es que si no atendemos cualquier problema inmediatamente, va a costarnos mucho más en una etapa posterior. En segundo lugar creo que es mi casa y yo soy responsable de ella mientras sea Párroco de esta parroquia. Y esa es la razón por la cual durante los últimos ocho años que he sido Párroco de San Joaquín, hemos gastado casi $400,000 en varios proyectos. Fui capaz de hacerlo sólo por su generosidad. Además de la ofrenda dominical, las actividades de recaudación de fondos por los Guadalupanos, el Comité de Simbang Gabi, el Comité de Eventos etcétera, han sido de gran ayuda para nuestra parroquia y así recaudar fondos para cumplir con las diferentes actividades de nuestra parroquia. Si no fuera por su arduo trabajo, nuestra parroquia no sería capaz de equilibrar el presupuesto. Me gustaría expresar mi agradecimiento sincero a todos los miembros de estos comités que pasan la mayor parte de su tiempo y energía recaudando fondos para la parroquia. Que Dios les bendiga abundantemente a ellos y a sus familias. En la parte posterior de este boleftn se da la declaración de ingresos y gastos del año pasado de nuestra parroquia. Por favor tómese su tiempo para revisarlos para que esté consciente del dinero que se ha recaudado y gastado para mantener las diversas actividades de nuestra parroquia
