Three years back, one day as I was walking back to the sacristy after the 12.15 pm Sunday
mass, a Spanish speaking young lady who comes regularly to our Sunday Mass along with her husband and two sons came to me and said that her elder boy who was studying third grade at that time, wants to speak to me. I said, “of course.” When the little boy came to me, he said, “Father, I enjoy reading your ‘Pastor’s desk’ every week.” I was in fact surprised to know that a boy of that age is reading my article!” There are also a few of our parishioners who have told me that they have preserved all the articles from the time it started appearing in our weekly bulletin. Such complements have greatly encouraged me to keep writing this article week after week. If my memory is correct, I have regularly presented this article for the last nine years. In the beginning I started writing the article based on the Scripture readings of the following Sunday, about our renovation projects, life sketch of some of our parishioners who have been part of our parish for many years, etc. Later it was mostly of some stories and incidents that I had read related to the Scripture readings of the following Sunday. I only shared with you what I had enjoyed reading from various books and articles. And I am happy to know that you too, enjoyed reading them and felt inspired, enlightened, and enriched by them.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to Mrs. Pat Ludwig, our Office Secretary for making sure that my article ‘From the Pastor Desk’ reaches her desk by Sunday evening so that she can send it to Ms. Gaby Perez for translating it into Spanish and then send it to the publishers by Tuesday 11.00 pm. It is to the credit of Ms. Pat Ludwig that we have never failed to bring out our weekly bulletin in time due to lack of planning. Even when she goes on vacation, she makes sure that our weekly bulletin comes out regularly on time with usual articles and parish news and information. The publishers of our weekly bulletin told us that our weekly bulletin is shown to other parishes as an example of a good bulletin. I express my heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Pat Ludwig for doing an excellent job in layout, composition and presentation of our weekly bulletin and making sure that it comes out regularly and on time.
I also would like to express my sincere thanks to Mr. Chuck Ludwig for regularly contributing his article ‘Vatican Corner’, to our weekly bulletin. His article has been highly informative and thought provoking. Like many of our parishioners, I too, eagerly look forward to reading his article. In fact, one of the agencies requested us for permission to reproduce his article regularly in some other parish bulletins and even offered us monetary reward. But we politely declined the offer as we wanted our parish bulletin to be the primary source of news. Writing that kind of article needs lots of reading and hard work. Well done Mr. Chuck Ludwig. Thanks for using and sharing your talents for the good of our parish community.
Hace tres años, un día, mientras caminaba de regreso a la sacristía después de la misa dominical de las 12:15 pm. Una joven de habla hispana que viene regularmente a nuestra misa dominical junto con su esposo y sus dos hijos se acercó a mí y me dijo que su hijo mayor que estaba estudiando tercer grado en ese momento, quería hablar conmigo. Dije, “por supuesto”. Cuando el niño se acercó a mí, me dijo: “Padre, disfruto leer su ‘Escritorio de pastor’ todas las semanas”. ¡De hecho, me sorprendió saber que un niño de esa edad está leyendo mi artículo! ” También hay algunos de nuestros feligreses que me han dicho que han conservado todos los artículos desde el momento en que comenzaron a aparecer en nuestro boletín semanal. Tales complementos me han animado mucho a seguir escribiendo este artículo semana tras semana. Si mi memoria es correcta, he presentado este artículo regularmente durante los últimos nueve años.
