While talking to me these days, quite a few of our parishioners have asked me to name one work of mine at St. Joachim in the last ten years that I feel so close to my heart. Without hesitation I have named the construction of the sanctuary in our church and bringing the tabernacle to the
sanctuary. Installing the tabernacle in the sanctuary changed the whole atmosphere in our church. It brought back the feeling of sense of sacredness once again to our church. I still vividly remember the first time I entered our church after reaching Hayward on June 10th, 2011. Before going into the Rectory, I entered our church to pray. When I entered our church, I was looking for the sanctuary and the tabernacle to pray. But I did not find that. I only saw a crucifix of which the corpus painted in compete white color hanging in the middle of the church. The first feeling that came me was, “What a weird church it is! Is this the church I am going to offer the mass?” It was looking like a Protestant church. More or less the same feeling was expressed by our Bishop Michael Barber, when he came to our church for the first time! After constructing the sanctuary, we also went on to purchase so many beautiful sterling silver chalices, ciborium, curvets, thuribles, Sanctuary lamp, Candle stands, Roman Missal stands, bells, crucifix, altar
cross, sanctuary furniture etc., to enhance the solemnity of our liturgical celebrations. All these efforts of mine would not have been possible without the cooperation and generosity of all our
parishioners, particularly those who generously donated the sanctuary materials. However, I would like to place on record the contribution of Mr. Abelardo Viveros, Ernesto Vázquez, José Luis Gonzalez, Victor Nochebueno, Alonzo Garcia, Francisco Muñoz, Manuel Pérez, Roberto Baires, the Knight of Columbus and others who worked so many evening to make our sanctuary look so beautiful and a fit place for prayer and worship.
For the last ten years, God gave me the privilege to lead the parish of St. Joachim. It was such a great privilege and opportunity to perform the sacraments such as Eucharists, Baptisms, Marriages, Confessions, Anointing of the Sick and Funerals. I never ever considered them as work. I always thought of them as privileges and opportunities. That is why on days when I had no help either from the diocese or from my Society, I happily offered eleven masses on a weekend and heard confessions for an hour. During these ten years I have experienced so much of love and affection from almost all of you. With confidence and trust you have confided with me news and information that you may not even share with your family members. Because you considered me a friend and a priest who will always stand with you and for you. As I leave St. Joachim to take up the new appointment, I go with a sense of fulfillment and joy for the privilege of being part of your life for the last ten years. Thank you and God bless you all abundantly. May He always watch over you, protect you, guide you and provide for you. Thank you and Good bye.
Estos últimos días he hablado con algunos de nuestros feligreses me han pedido que mencione uno de mis trabajos en San Joaquín en los últimos diez años que sienta tan cerca de mi corazón. Sin dudarlo he nombrado la construcción del santuario en nuestra iglesia y llevar el tabernáculo al santuario. La instalación del tabernáculo en el santuario cambió toda la atmósfera de nuestra iglesia. Devolvió el sentimiento de santidad una vez más a nuestra iglesia. Todavía recuerdo vívidamente la primera vez que entré a la iglesia después de llegar a Hayward el 10 de junio de 2011. Antes de ir a la rectoría, entré a la iglesia para orar. Cuando entré a la iglesia, estaba buscando el santuario y el tabernáculo para orar. Pero no encontré eso. Solo vi un crucifijo cuyo cuerpo pintado en color blanco completo colgado en medio de la iglesia. El primer sentimiento que me vino fue: “¡Qué iglesia tan extraña es! ¿Es esta la iglesia que voy a ofrecer la misa? Parecía una iglesia protestante. ¡Más o menos el mismo sentimiento fue expresado por nuestro obispo Miguel Barber, cuando vino a la iglesia por primera vez! Después de construir el santuario, también compramos tantos hermosos cálices de plata esterlina, copón, estolas, incensarios, lámpara del santuario, candelabros, soportes del misal romano, campanas,
crucifijo, cruz del altar, muebles del santuario, etc., para realzar la solemnidad. de nuestras celebraciones litúrgicas. Todos estos esfuerzos míos no hubieran sido posibles sin la cooperación y generosidad de todos nuestros feligreses, particularmente de aquellos que generosamente donaron los materiales sancturay. Sin embargo, quisiera dejar constancia del aporte del señor Abelardo Viveros, Ernesto Vázquez, José Luis González, Víctor Nochebuena, Alonzo García, Francisco Muños, Manuel Pérez, Roberto Baires, los Caballeros de Colón y otros que tantas veladas trabajaron para hacer que nuestro santuario se vea tan hermoso y un lugar apropiado para la oración y laadoración.
Durante los últimos diez años, Dios me dio el privilegio de dirigir la parroquia de San Joaquín. Fue un gran privilegio y oportunidad realizar los sacramentos como Eucaristías, Bautismos, Matrimonios, Confesiones, Unción de los Enfermos y Funerales. Nunca los consideré un trabajo. Siempre los consideré privilegios y oportunidades. Por eso, en los días en que no tuve ayuda ni de la diócesis ni de mi Sociedad, ofrecí alegremente once misas en un fin de semana y
escuché confesiones durante una hora. Durante estos diez años he experimentado mucho amor y afecto por parte de casi todos ustedes. Con seguridad y confianza me han confiado noticias e informaciones que tal vez ni siquiera compartan con los miembros de su familia. Porque me consideraron un amigo y un sacerdote que siempre estará contigo y para ti. Al salir de San Joaquín para asumir el nuevo nombramiento, me voy con una sensación de plenitud y alegría por el privilegio de ser parte de su vida durante los últimos diez años. Gracias y que Dios los bendiga a todos abundantemente. Que Él siempre los cuide, los proteja, los guíe y les provea. Gracias y adiós.
