Today we celebrate World Mission Sunday 2021 and it is a perfect time for me, a Divine Word Missionary priest to be installed as a new pastor of St. Joachim Parish. The installation of a pastor is a canonical act that happens within a liturgical context. The main part of this ceremony is the presentation of the new pastor to the Parish Community, staff, pastoral and financial councils, reading of the appointment and profession of faith by the pastor. The new pastor will be address with these words: “Remember, always be a loving father, a gentle shepherd, and a wise teacher of your people, so that you may lead them to Christ who will strengthen all that you do.” These words pretty much sum up the heart of what all this means to me. It is the three-fold duty of a priest and pastor to be: a “loving father” who leads a parish in prayer and Sacrament, a “gentle shepherd” who directs and guides a parish, and a “wise teacher” who strives to pass on the faith and the Church’s teachings. All of this is to lead us to Christ. It will be my honor to serve as your new pastor, celebrating the Eucharist and other Sacraments, bringing us closer together to each other and to the One we have come to believe in. Together we will listen and follow our Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ who is really in charge here. May He lead us and help us to follow His footsteps so we could all become His disciples spreading Good News by what we say and what we do. May on this Mission Sunday we all become a missionary of Christ by the way we live our lives and give witness to our faith. I would greatly appreciate your prayers that I may be a good pastor and truly lead all of us to Christ. In return, I will pray for you and do my best!

Hoy celebramos el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones 2021 y es el momento perfecto para mí, un sacerdote Misionero del Verbo Divino, para instalarme como nuevo párroco de la parroquia St. Joachim. La instalación de un pastor es un acto canónico que ocurre dentro de un context litúrgico. La parte principal de esta ceremonia es la presentación del nuevo párroco a la comunidad parroquial, el personal, los consejos pastorales y financieros, lectura del nombramiento y profesión de fe por parte del párroco. El nuevo pastor se dirigirá con estas palabras: “Recuerda, sé siempre un padre amoroso, un pastor amable y un maestro sabio de tu pueblo, para que puedas llevarlos a Cristo, quien fortalecerá todo lo que haces”. Estas palabras resumen bastante bien el meollo de lo que todo esto significa para mí. Es el deber triple de un sacerdote y pastor ser: un “padre amoroso” que dirige una parroquia en oración y sacramento, un “pastor amable” que dirige y guía una parroquia, y un “maestro sabio” que se esfuerza por transmitir la fe y las enseñanzas de la Iglesia. Todo esto es para llevarnos a Cristo. Será un honor para mí servir como su nuevo pastor, celebrando la Eucaris’a y otros sacramentos, acercándonos unos a otros y a Aquel en quien hemos llegado a creer. Juntos escucharemos y seguiremos a nuestro Buen Pastor, Jesucristo quien está realmente a cargo aquí. Que Él nos guíe y nos ayude a seguir Sus pasos para que todos podamos convertirnos en Sus discípulos y difundir las Buenas Nuevas con lo que decimos y hacemos. Que en este Domingo de las Misiones todos seamos misioneros de Cristo por la forma en que vivimos nuestras vidas y damos testimonio de nuestra fe. Agradecería enormemente sus oraciones para que pueda ser un buen pastor y verdaderamente guiarnos a todos a Cristo. ¡A cambio, rezaré por ti y haré lo mejor que pueda!
