This year’s parish picnic at the Kennedy Park on July 25th was a well attended event. Many people worked behind the scene to see that that the parishioners who came for the event had fun and felt a sense of together-ness. The Event’s Committee headed by Mr. Ron Ytem had been making the necessary plan for this event in its last three meetings. Ms. Selena Castellanos, the Chairperson of this year’s parish picnic took care of every detail to see that our parishioners did not lack food, drink or fun. She was assisted by the Knights of Columbus, parish youth, our office staff and volunteers. Our parish choir headed by Mr. Ariel Mayormita donated more than enough meat for the event. And the Knights of Columbus served it hot on our plates. One could experience a sense of togetherness during the time of picnic. Children had lots fun including the opportunity to ride on the train! In comparison to other years, more people took part in this year’s parish picnic. The choice of place of picnic surely played an important part in enabling more people to participate. Since the place was accessible by city bus even people who do not drive by themselves were able to take part in the event. I thank the organizers and all who participated in this year’s picnic. The event surely achieved its purpose – creating a feeling of togetherness. Well done.

I heard about a little boy who got into a heated argument with his sister about who was going to get the last brownie, and his mother overheard this discussion and came in to try to resolve the fuss. Her two children, both extremely upset, each wanted that last brownie. So sensing the opportunity to teach a deeper spiritual truth, the mother looked at her children and asked that very relevant question …….”What would Jesus do?” Well, that little boy immediately answered, “That’s easy. Jesus would just break that brownie and make 5,000 more!”

A young man saw an elderly couple sitting down to lunch at McDonald’s. He noticed that they had ordered one meal, and an extra drink cup. As he watched, the gentleman carefully divided the hamburger in half, counted out the fries, one for him, one for her, until each had half of them. Then he poured half of the soft drink into the extra cup and set that in front of his wife. The old man then began to eat, and his wife sat watching, with her hands folded in her lap. The young man decided to ask if they would allow him to purchase another meal for them so that they didn’t have to split theirs. The old gentleman said, “Oh no. We’ve been married 50 years, and everything has always been and will always be shared, 50/50.” The young man then asked the wife if she was not going to eat, and she replied, “It’s his turn with the teeth.”

El picnic parroquial de este año en el parque Kennedy el 25 de Julio fue un evento bien atendido. Mucha gente trabajó detrás de la escena para asegurar que los feligreses quienes llegaron al evento se divirtieran y sintieran unidad. El comité del evento encabezado por el Sr. Ron Ytem planeó lo necesario para este evento en sus tres últimas reuniones. La Sra. Selena Castellanos, Presidente del picnic parroquial este año, cuidó de cada detalle para que a nuestros feligreses no les faltara comida, bebida o diversión. Ella fue asistida por los Caballeros de Colón, jóvenes, personal administrativo y voluntarios. Nuestro coro parroquial en-cabezado por el Sr. Ariel Mayormita donó más que suficiente carne para el evento, y los Caballeros de Colón la sirvieron caliente sobre nuestros platos. Uno pudo experimentar un sentido de convivencia durante el tiempo de picnic. Los niños se divirtieron mucho incluyendo la oportunidad de montar en el tren! En comparación con otros años, más personas tomaron parte del picnic parroquial de este año. La elección del lugar del picnic sin duda desempeñó un papel importante para permitir que más gente participara ya que el lugar era accesible por autobús e incluso personas que no conducen por sí mismos fueron capaces de tomar parte del evento. Agradezco a los organizadores y a todos los que participaron en el picnic de este año. El evento seguramente logró su propósito: crear un sentimiento de fraternidad. Bien hecho.

Escuché sobre un niño que se metió en una discusión fuerte con su hermana acerca de quién iba a conseguir el último brownie, su madre escuchó esta dis-cusión y vino a tratar de resolver la queja. Sus dos hijos, ambos extremadamente molestos, cada uno quería ese último brownie. Detectando la oportunidad para enseñar una verdad espiritual más profunda, la madre miró a sus hijos y les preguntó esta pregunta muy relevante… “¿Qué haría Jesús?” Pues bien, ese niñito inmediatamente respondió: “eso es fácil, Jesús quebraría ese brownie y haría 5,000 más!”

Un joven vio a una pareja de ancianos sentarse a comer en McDonald’s. Se dio cuenta de que habían ordenado una comida y una taza de bebida extra. Mientras observaba, el caballero dividía cuidadosamente la hamburguesa por la mitad, contó las papas fritas, una para él, una para ella, hasta que cada uno tenía la mitad de ellas. Luego vierte la mitad de la bebida en la taza extra y la coloca frente a su esposa. El anciano comenzó a comer, y su esposa se sentó mirándole, con las manos dobladas en su regazo. El joven decidió solicitar si le permitiría comprar otra comida para ellos para que no tuvieran que compartir. El anciano dijo, “Oh no, nosotros hemos estado casados 50 años, y todo siempre ha sido y siempre será compartido, 50/50”. El joven le preguntó a la esposa si ella no iba a comer, y ella respondió: “Es su turno con los dientes”.
